Downtown farmer’s market partner

I am looking for someone who is established in the downtown DM farmer’s market who might be willing to share their space with me next season. I have no idea the cost of renting space for the market but I’m sure it’s not in my budget for a space of my own, not to mention things like a tent awning, etc so I thought I would see if there’s anyone who would like to share space and expense. hey Randy…I asked YOU first what you sell lol but that’s ok. I’m a handy-crafter. Right now what I have is a slew of necklaces with pendants made from upcycled/repurposed dominoes, glass tile, scrabble tiles, etc. Pendants are then put on either black leather, ,black satin, or color-coordinated ribbon with cord. I put a wide variety of images on the pendants……Klimt, I Love Lucy, Alice in Wonderland, Wizard of Oz, It’s a Wonderful life, birds, butterflies, Steampunk,  sayings, hearts….you name it.

I also thought if I could get into the farmer’s market I would start now on sewing…..accessories, babies and childrens clothing.  I am also working on some more artistic endeavors and depending on what transpires there some of that may be included. I have my hands in so many different things I have never been able to limit myself to one art or craft so cannot say I specialize in one particular thing. I knit scarves, make pennant banners (paper and cloth)….I could go on but I think you get the picture.

So what do you think? Could it be a good match? Tell me what you sell.

You handy-crafter, you!  I bet your necklaces are quite stunning.  The idea of re-purposing dominoes and scrabble tiles is just fantastic.  I think these kinds of items would sell well at the FARMER’S MARKET!  Hooray!

Last year, I took a woodworking class at a community college.  It was on Tuesday and Thursday nights.  There were only 4 other people in the class. (I think one of them was dead).  After a couple of weeks, I realized that I had quite a knack for woodworking. For the last few months, I’ve been sculpting statuettes of some of my heroes: Grover Cleveland, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Walt Disney, Harriet Tubman, Alec Baldwin, and Jesus Christ to name a few!  (I even gave Harriet Tubman a mustache).  I’ve been wanting to show them off for a while now, and I can’t think of a better place to do so then the FARMER’S MARKET!! Hooray! Somewhere along the line, I also started working furiously with wicker.  I’ve made several picnic baskets, some rocking chairs, some adult toys, and a few coasters that I’m quite proud of.

I should also mention that I am a highly skilled cheesemaker.  I spend every Saturday afternoon making cheese nuggets in various flavors, like tomato basil, spicy cheddar (watch out!), and garlic parsley (makes me gassy), and pepperjack. What better place to showcase homemade cheese than the FARMER’S MARKET!  Hooray!

I think this sounds like a great match.  Do you have any pictures of your items?

I appreciate your responsiveness, as well as your enthusiasm in regards to selling your crock.  How long have you had your crock?  What kinds of things did you use it for? I have an enviable recipe for venison chili, if you’re interested.  I think it’s the pearl onions that give it such a dynamite flavor.  I once ate 7 bowls over the course of a lunch break and, though I was committed to the toilet for several hours, I don’t regret the experience.

I’d be interested in hearing your opinion on Eastern Vs. Western crocks.  After a few months, I was forced to downgrade my Eastern from crock to candy dish.

Ideally, I’d like to meet over the weekend.  What’s your availability?  And, this kind of transaction surely needs to be made with the utmost discretion.  Perhaps we could meet near the old tennis courts (with the chain nets) or behind the Super K-Mart.   I’ve already withdrawn $120, concealed it within a brown paper bag, and placed it inside a small duffle.

Thanks for responding.  I’m really hoping that you can offer me some assistance.  To be honest, I don’t have much to put on a resume.  I’ve done some custodial work and once worked part time at a nearby supermarket.  However, my resume says that I’ve worked as a personal banker, an advertising account executive, and a marketing strategist.  My biggest problem is that whenever I’m called in for an interview,  I have a difficult time answering the employer’s questions. I don’t know much about banking or advertising.   Do you think you can teach me a bit, so I’ll perform better in interviews?   I have great communication skills, and I’m fairly proficient with Microsoft products.   Let me know.  I really appreciate it.

I think I understand what you are getting at.  Like I said, I have done some custodial work, but changed “custodian” to “marketing strategist” on my resume.  I also changed “stock clerk” to advertising executive” I felt that it sounded far more professional and might allow me to get my foot in the door at a respected company.  When I finally do get my foot in the door, I seem to struggle during the interview process.  What do you think?   I always present myself well.  I usually wear a suit, though sometimes I opt not to wear a tie.  I almost always wear socks and a belt.  I also have a little man-purse that I use to carry my documents.  I’m not sure what the problem is.  Looking forward to hearing from you.

I actually bought it for my sister and she wore it twice and loved it but gave it back saying she didn’t like it showed her stomach.  She’s really tall so it looked short on her and showed some of her stomach.  Anyway, I told her then I wanted it back because I loved it but when I tried it on I realized it wasn’t something I could wear to work so there was no reason to keep it.  I don’t do much clubbing.  It is really really cute though.  Let me know if you can look at it between 11:30 and 4 tomorrow.  My family is coming to town to celebrate my bday at 5pm so I won’t be available after that and would like to get rid of it so I don’t have to worry about it.  Thanks.

I understand your sister’s reasoning for giving back the shirt.  I don’t mind showing a little stomach,  so I don’t think I’ll have a problem in that regard.  I’m a little concerned about the 6% spandex.  Sometimes, spandex gives me a mild rash and I have to apply special lotion to my body.   But, since your shirt contains such a small percentage of spandex, it likely won’t be much of an issue.  I would like to try on the shirt before I commit to buying it.  Also, I’d like to see how it feels while I’m dancing.  I have a mix CD i made of my favorite clubbin’ songs.  Perhaps, I could stop by, try on the shirt, and dance to one or two songs on the CD; just to get an idea of how the shirt fits and feels.  You could even put on one of your cute shirts and we can pretend like we’re out on the town.  Do you like house music?  Let me know.  Talk to you soon!
