chick lit bookclub

My bookshelves are full of books that harbor the same plot line. Single 20/30 girls living in big cities who just happen to trip over their shoelaces, land in their Prince Charming’s lap and fall happily ever after. Or something along that line. You know, true life! Its a horrible obsession, that I know a lot of other people also have. I think I need an intervention, primarily in the form of a book club. If you’d be interested in getting together once a month over wine and food to discuss the newest girl meets Prince Charming, feel free to respond.

Hello!
I’m interested in joining your book club.   I’m an avid reader, and would love to get together with some new friends to converse.   Are you still looking for a member?  Let me know.  I’d like to hear more about it.

Thanks,
RP

Hi Randy!

That would be wonderful.  We’re meeting Wed 7:00 pm at Cesars to talk about Dirty Girls on Top.  Not sure if you’ve ever read it (or if you speed read to be able to read it in two days).  Feel free to come if you just want to meet the other girls.  Just let me know so I can add you to the list to know how many people are coming.  We’ll pick the new book and just have fun gossiping about the books.  Hope you can make it.  If not, I’ll add you to this list for next month!

Hi Nancy!!
Thanks for responding so quickly!  I have read Dirty Girls on Top.  I felt that the characters were slightly transparent and the plot was terribly undeveloped.  But, that’s just me.   I guess I’ll be able to share more of my opinions during book club!   How many girls are in the club?  What other books are in the queue?  Have you ever read, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie?

Thanks,
RP

Hi Randy:

We’ve only met once and this will be our second meeting.  Four of us showed up last time with 2 others calling in sick.  This time we’ll have two of the girls showing up again and one of the girls who was sick.  Adding you would make us five, unless more people want to show up still.

No other books are in the queue per se.  We just all put in our favorites and pick one.  We could start a queue, but last time everyone was taken by surprise and just kinda put in their favorite.  I’ll start up a list this time though!  I have not read If you give a mouse a cookie.  We should put it in the newly developed queue!  :)

See you Wed then?  I’m excited you already read the book, makes it easier to just jump right in.

Hi Nancy,
Five is a nice number.  I don’t think we should allow any more ladies in the club.   How do you feel about giving everybody a position?  I could be President.  Or, if you’d like to be president, we could hold a debate and then put it to a vote.  We’ll also need a treasurer to be responsible for keeping track of the budget and a secretary to take minutes at each meeting.

You really should read, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.  It’s tremendously inspirational.   I’ve been reading it every year for the past 20 years.   I’m glad that you’re going to start a list.  I really appreciate your enthusiasm.

Are the meetings BYOB?

Thanks,
RP

Hi RandY;
We are actually just trying to get a feeling of friendship, food and books.  Nothing intense to have positions or to keep a number to the group.  I wouldn’t let the group get out of control with number of people, but I do want people not not feel like they HAVE to show up every month.  If things get busy, people get busy, then take a month off.  This is a chick lit bookclub where we can all gossip about our takes on the relationships in the books and the characters.  If you think this isn’t something you’re looking for, no problem.  But we are looking for a very laid back atmosphere.  The meetings are dictated by the restaurant.  If the restaurant is BYOB, then we will provide each our own.

Hi Nancy,
Sounds great.  Why don’t you be president and I’ll be vice president.   That should work out fine.  I’ll BYOB to the first meeting, and see what happens.

Thanks,
RP

Randy:

I do not want to sound rude, but there will be no positions.  There is no need for positions.  Cesars is not a BYOB bar.

Nancy,
You’re going to make a great president!   Talk soon.

Thanks,
